Giant Spoon!
I’ve no idea if the Western world have giant utensils, but here in the Philippines? These giant utensils (usually a fork-and-spoon pair) are being sold as souvenirs. Carved out from wood, these fork-and-spoon displays reflect the country’s BIG love affair with food, and eating.
The one pictured above came with the house that I’m living in right now — I wonder sometimes how it got to be in such bad shape, but then on the first few months, this spoon has turned into something of an anti-burglar device; it swings like a baseball bat, the weight is just right and it HURTS when it hits!
Do you have one of these hanging by the dining room? How about the kitchen? Any interesting stories about it? Share ‘em by leaving a comment!

A friend felt the pain of “teh spoon” during his naughty kid days. Teh spoon, along with “the hustler”(dogs playing pool!), and the last supper were decoration staples in the Filipino household back in the 80s. I think we had the hustler but my mom threw it away. Where’s the fork by the way?!

It HURTS when it hits! Not tested on actual goons though…
Who knows what the previous owners of this house did with the fork?! They might’ve smashed it so hard on a potential crook’s head that they had to move and sell the house?! Honestly, I have no idea.
